Chlorination of niobium and tantalum ore

Wolframite samples collected from five different deposits of Argentina were carefully purified by hand under a binocular microscope. Upgraded specimens with this methodology had a variable ratio of divalent metals (0.06 < x < 0.84) for similar tungsten content (WO 3 = 72.4–73.3%).

Ore‐forming Fluid and Metallogenic Mechanism of Wolframite–Quartz …

The variable CO 2 contents in the ore-forming fluids also implies that CO 2 might have had a positive effect on ore formation. Fluid inclusion studies indicate that wolframite was most likely deposited during cooling from an initial H 2 O + NaCl ± CO 2 magmatic fluid. In addition, fluid-phase separation and/or mixing with sedimentary fluid ...

Extraction of tungsten from wolframite ore (Fe, Mn)WO4 was achieved using ammonium phosphate salt as flux. The supplied ore was predominantly composed of iron-rich endmember called ferberite (FeWO4) and other minor phases identified as quartz and elsmoreite. Fusion of the wolframite ore sample (ratio 1:25) yielded an unstable …

The density of a coltan bearing ore is dictated by the tantalum grade and is generally between 5.3 and 7.8 g/cm 3 (Mirji et al., 2016). However, when the tantalum content is low, other minerals being present, such as cassiterite and wolframite could possess densities close to that of colombo-tantalite.
